Completed ProjectThe restoration project at Cağaloğlu MTAL, a historic educational building located in Fatih, Istanbul, has been completed with suspension, reinforcement, roof, facade, interior, and complementary works.
The restoration work on Cağaloğlu MTAL was carried out with the aim of preserving the historical building, which is an example of civil architecture, and bringing it back into use for educational purposes.
Of the original parts of the structure, only the body walls have survived to the present day; the reinforced concrete slabs, columns, and beams added later in the interior have been removed from the building in a controlled manner. During this process, the body walls were secured with scaffolding, aiming to preserve the original wall texture and increase the load-bearing capacity.
The restoration project at Cağaloğlu MTAL is a prime example of Taksim Yapı's commitment to quality, combining conservation principles with the needs of a contemporary educational building.
Plaster removal was carried out throughout the structure to allow for preliminary assessment and analysis. Joint repairs, material repairs, surface preparation, and strengthening applications were performed on the original body walls.
Before the dismantling of the reinforced concrete load-bearing system, controlled cutting and drilling methods were applied to reduce the risk of vibration; the dismantling process was completed without damaging the historical wall structure.
During the restoration process of Cağaloğlu MTAL, the building's exterior walls were secured with scaffolding; the reinforced concrete slab, columns, and beam systems were dismantled in a controlled manner.
Stabilization applications were carried out on the foundation walls, and structural safety was supported with injection and drainage solutions. Subsequently, the steel load-bearing system, vaulted floor slabs, and timber construction were completed in a manner consistent with the original architectural character.
A suspension system was installed to secure the body walls and to ensure a controlled dismantling process.
The flooring system and structural arrangement, in keeping with the original building character, were completed with technical application discipline.
Wooden elements were incorporated in a way that supports the historical character of the building and the integrity of the interior design.
Following restoration, the building's exterior shell is completed with facade proportions, window arrangement, roof covering, and relationship with the urban environment, revealing its historical identity as an educational institution once again.
On the courtyard side, a steel staircase system has been designed to meet contemporary functional needs; this intervention has been treated as a controlled and legible complementary element integrated into the historical mass.
Interior details such as floor coverings, wood flooring, ceiling designs, and door and window partitions have been chosen to complement the building's historical character.
In the restoration of Cağaloğlu MTAL, the details of the classrooms, halls, stairs, windows, and doors were completed with an approach that considers both current usage needs and the historical scale of the building.
The restoration of Cağaloğlu MTAL involved preserving the original exterior walls while completing the strengthening, structural system, roof, facade, and interior works.
